Here is a video of class pictures. Along with it is a song the students have been learning for the books of the Old Testament. Please help your child learn the books of the Bible with this song. Thanks!

Team Usewicz started the day with chapel. Praising our Lord is a great way to begin our fellowship together! In the morning we focused on Language Arts.
The second grade worked on the long a sound spelled 'ai' and 'ay'. They also worked on inflected endings -es,-s,-ing. The first grade reviewed the short 'u' sound.
Dr. Fischer the Dentist visited us in the morning and reminded everyone how important it is to keep your teeth healthy. We enjoyed looking at all the models he brought us.
We finished our day with a few specials and Science. The class reviewed our senses by singing a song. The first and second graders were given a situation and they had to tell a partner what senses were used.
Our day was blessed and busy!

We started our day with chapel. It was a great message about praying when things may seem confusing. The students related the message to their studies in the classroom.
Language Arts- The second grade worked on the long e sound made by 'e' and 'y' at the end of words. The first grade reviewed the 'j' sound and jumped to words that started with j.
Math- The second grade created a vertical graph and are doing well on their speed drills(timed math facts). The first grade learned to count by ten and put that to practice with dimes.
We have learned up to number six for touch math. Keep practicing at home please. I see many students who use touch math and they are succesful with it.
Our afternoon flew by with specials but we saved time to talk about Abraham Lincoln. We are excited about our field trip so please get your money and permission slips in. I will let you know if you will be driving by next week.
God Bless!

We started our day with devotions. We have been learning that the Bible can move our hearts. We compared it to the wind by using feathers. Then we played a game using those feathers and enjoyed working with partners.
This is what we did in our core subjects:
Language Arts- The second grade worked on sequencing and blending sounds at the beginning and end of a word. The first grade focused on the short 'o' sound. We hopped around the room to words that have the short sound in them.
Math- The second grade created a greater and less than worksheet for a friend and used them to review. We then studied vertical graphs. The first grade worked on learning the calendar. We sang a new song about the days of the week and put motions to it.
We had a busy afternoon with Art and Music and were able to read the story My Teacher for President by Kay Winters.
Thanks for your prayers and will see you at the Promise Tree Event!

We learned a lot today! The day started with team meeting and our Bible Verse for the week. When we finished, I showed a video clip about what happens when two vowels are together in a word. This video is a catchy song that will help us remember the rule. Please check it out!

This is what we did in our core subjects:
Language Arts- The second grade worked on the long e sound and the difference between questions and statements. The first grade focused the 'd' and 'h' sound. The also worked on the difference between phrases and sentences.
Math- Both classes reviewed for the test!
In the afternoon we made bubble maps of all the jobs a president might do. (Ask your child what a bubble map is.) The students were put into groups and worked together to gather some ideas. When completed we wrote down all that we knew and read If I Were President by Catherine Stier. The book gave us more ideas and we added them to our bubble map. Learning about presidents is getting us all excited for our field trip. Please remember to send in the permission slips along with the money.
Thank you and pray for us as we finish this wonderful week!

What a Discovery Day! We were brought a huge sunflower that we explored during Science today. The sunflower assisted us as we learned the parts of a plant. We guessed how many seeds there were and individually put them on a number grid. We came up with 671 seeds with more left over.
I am in awe thinking how God created such an amazing flower. He made each one of those seeds that perfectly fit into the plant. It helps me to realize that each one of my students were perfectly made by God and we need to see them as something special!!

We enjoyed our "Fun Friday!" The day started with a video clip about humility and talking about what it means to be humble. Then we went on to cover our core subjects.
Language Arts- The second grade worked on Predicates by creating their own sentences. They also took another spelling test. Please keep studying!
The first grade focused on rhyming and beginning sounds.
Math- The second grade divided groups in halves and reviewed 1-7 subtraction families.
The first grade learned about the penny and months of the year.
In the afternoon we wrote a class introduction letter to our pen pals in Kaiserslautern,Germany. They are the 3rd and 4th grade class at Faith Baptist School. My sister Holly Smoyer is the teacher. We plan on sending our letter with a class picture on Monday.
We ended our joyous day with centers and gumball words. I was proud of everyone's hard work and look forward to a new month at school!
